The University Medical Center Groningen is a hospital in Groningen, The Netherlands. Its core tasks are academic health care, medical education and medical research.
The hospital offers about 1.400 beds and has almost 14.000 employees. It is the only hospital in The Netherlands that is allowed to do any organ transplantations that exist and therefore one of the few hospitals in the world that are allowed to.

Why did your organisation join the LIFES community?

UMCG supports the FAIR principles and we substantiate this:
• Commitment to the FAIR Principles
• As open as possible, as closed as necessary
• As distributed as possible, as centralized as necessary
• Follow the ‘hourglass’ approach: maximum freedom to implement
• Prevent single points of failure, or provider lock-in
